From deliberations to editing spreads that are in the magazine, everyone in {m} gets to be a part of the publication process. {M} associates get to experience the publication process in a very hands on way. There is a lot of space for creative freedom in designing their spreads and honing their creative outlook in the deliberation process.
We hold a lot of events that allow artists to use the {m} space to share their works even outside of the publication! We always hold open mics throughout the year, and last year we even held a Stussy warehouse sale. We’ve recently held a virtual celebration of {m}33’s Babae(x): The Moon and Her Phases that actually expanded the space that we can be in community with. Below is our theme revelation from last year!

As a HR Associate, you will be helping with coordinating the weekly workshops, working closely with different organizations within the Pilipinx community, as well as helping retain our staff and associate cohort. You will be working alongside with me in providing a bunch of different resources, from scholarships to campus resources to entertainment (books, movies, TV shows, etc...) for everyone whether it be internal (from Berkeley) or external (outside Berkeley) .
Within this committee, the main goal is to effectively build connections between the {m} community and the communities it serves within and beyond UC Berkeley. This committee will reach out to third parties for collaborations, alumni relations, and so much more. The main goal for this coming semester within this committee is establishing strong network relations and accountability of {m} communications, along with fostering a Pil-org wide alumni network, to ensure that {m}aganda can continue to be trusted as a reliable and safe place for all.
The lit component will work together to ideate and define {m} 34’s theme, develop it with the rest of {m}34, and finally, write our annual Call For Submissions, what is traditionally a spoken word performance for us to craft and share together. The fall is a transformative semester for us, and I’m looking forward to getting to make real magic with my associates <3 this will be a close knit, honest, and dynamic space.

We can work together alongside local businesses, planning events, raise funds for {M}aganda (yay!), and so much more! You will gain experience in professional development, teamwork, event planning, finance management.
Community & events coordinates external events, including open mics, art galleries, community building and/or healing circles. this year, we also plan on leading workshops/events centering topics such as antiBlackness, homophobia + transphobia, Pilipinx history, colonialism + decolonizing, all within the context of art and literature. We are calling on those who are enthusiastic about community building and social engagement/outreach (not necessarily extroverted!)
Internal development helps internal {m} relations and community building :)
The editorial committee works primarily on managing and publishing content on the website (magandamagazine.org). However, we will be assisting many of the other committees on their projects, as well as thinking of new projects specifically for the website. I recommend applying if you want to approach {m} holistically.
Are you interested in content creation? Want to improve your photography skills? Learn how to edit videos with Premiere Pro? Join Maganda's multimedia committee and gain skills to apply to your own projects! This semester we are focusing heavily on teaching technical skills in photography composition and editing basics, work flow organization, and using different equipment. No prior experience necessary!!!!!
We will creating style guides in InDesign for website content and social media, learning how to use the industry-standard program to build effective layouts for webpages, social media posts, etc. This is component is definitely for you if you want to learn how to use InDesign (or if you are interested in learning more about the program!), love design/style/aesthetics, and have an incredible amount of patience for tasks that will test it every step of the way (InDesign is fun, I promise!)
The Social Media committee designs and launches the promotional and brand content for the organization across our social media platforms. We are looking for folx that are interested in graphic design, social media management, and/or branding + advertising! You can expect to have opportunities to design promotional graphics for {m}’s social media platforms!
